Operational reporting / Brief 03

Defining a useful monthly billing report.

A reporting brief for practice leaders who need a concise view of activity, unresolved work, recurring issues, and decisions that need attention.

Define the reporting frame

A useful report should identify the period covered, the data sources used, the practices or locations included, and any material limits on the information presented.

Make the status easy to scan

  • Claims submitted, rejected, or awaiting information
  • Payments posted, adjustments recorded, and reconciliation questions
  • Denials worked and recurring categories identified
  • A/R aging priorities and high-risk follow-up items
  • Open provider, front-desk, or leadership questions
  • Recommended next actions for the following period

Separate completed work from blocked work

Practice leaders should be able to distinguish activity that is complete, work still in progress, items awaiting payer response, and questions that cannot move without practice input.
